I have been writing about five years now. I have found free verse poetry an interesting and beneficial experience. A friend of mine speaks of the "distance of poetry." I believe he is speaking of how poetry allows the writer to examine events, experiences and emotions in a way that slows down reaction and expression. From this position the writer can break away from conditioned or habitual responses. Awesome!
There has been and unanticipated benefit from this new interest. I joined the Writers Forum. I have met many interesting people here. And their writing is diverse and entertaining. It has also put me in touch with other creative people in the visual and musical arts. Along the way it became apparent the when individuals share their creative output, they are very open and I am able to connect and engage with them on a good level.
